Swingers club’s future in doubt as owners ‘hang up their whips and chains’

The future of a popular swingers club in Sheffield is in doubt after changes due to the coronavirus lockdown.
La Chambre in Attercliffe Road has been closed since March due to the Covid-19 restrictions that were brought in earlier this year.
But now owners, Marie and Barry, have announced their retirement after setting up and running the club for over 20 years.
It was decided that the lease will not be renewed on the current premises
However, it is hoped that the La Chambre name will live on at a new venue in the city.
But this is still uncertain.
A post on the club’s Facebook page said: “Firstly we would like to announce that Marie and Barry, (The Oldest Swingers in Town) are hanging up their swinging shoes, whips and chains and slipping into the wonderful world of retirement.
“We have taken a long hard look at La Chambre and like most clubs it make financial sense to remain closed as we lose less money than we would if we opened.
“We don’t see the point in paying for something that we are not using, so have decided not to renew our lease on our current building while we are unable to open, which will continue for the next six months under the current government guide lines.
“We are going to use this time to look for a new build that we feel will be more suitable and give us more options to open and also give us a chance to bring La Chambre a whole new lease of life.”
But Marie says that all hope is not lost as people are interested in opening the club at a new premises under the La Chambre name.
However, she stressed that “nothing was certain”.
The post added: “After we opened the club over 20 years ago, closing it now is proving very difficult and heartbreaking.”
