These were the scenes inside Primark in Meadowhall at midnight as hundreds of shoppers queued for an hour to get into the store.
The Sheffield shopping centre store was one of 11 to stay open past midnight and into the early hours of Thursday morning – and plenty of customers took the opportunity to enjoy this unique shopping occasion.
The queue snaked all the way through the shopping centre to the main entrance and according to a security guard at 12.30pm there were 2,000 people in the queue.
Shoppers joining just after midnight were told they could have to queue for up to five hours to enter the store. However, their wait only ended up being 60 minutes.
Inside the store, it was a lot less hectic with the store only allowing a certain number of people to enter to ensure social distancing measures were met.
However, there were further queues at the checkouts with customers forced to wait around a lot to get their hands on clothes and gifts from the store.
There were long queues throughout Wednesday, according to a security guard at Meadowhall, and Primark is set to remain open until 7pm on December 3.
Primark said it would keep stores open for longer to allow for “safer shopping”.
In a statement on the firm’s website, it said: “As we reopen our doors for the festive season we’ll be keeping our stores open for longer for safer shopping, giving you more time to shop, reducing the queues and making it easier to maintain social distancing.”
