Written by on 30/11/2020

Residents have said that it is “shocking” and “scary” after the body of a man was found inside a house in Doncaster and two people have been arrested for murder.

Officers were called to Beckett Road in Wheatley at 12.06pm on Sunday, November 29, after reports that a man had died.

On arrival emergency services discovered the body of a 55-year-old man.

A 50-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man were both arrested at the property on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody.

A police car was still seen along Beckett Road today, Monday, after the shock death over the weekend.

Residents say that the news is a real shock and a blow to the community.

Sylvia Walker, 70, said: “I just can’t believe it really.

“It’s not good that it has happened right on my door step, it doesn’t make you feel safe at all.

“I will admit it’s not the best area but you still don’t expect a murder investigation to get launched near where you live.”

Terry Phillips, 52, said: “It’s a tragedy. I don’t know who the bloke was but my heart goes out to his family.

“It’s a worrying thing to happen so close to home.”

South Yorkshire Police have said that enquiries are continuing and a post mortem is due to take place today.

On Sunday police cars, ambulances and forensic vehicles were seen along Beckett Road.

Charles Turner, 47, who also lives nearby, said: “It’s shocking. When I heard about it I couldn’t believe how close it was.

“It is such a shame as things like this just keep bringing our area back down again.

“I feel so sad for the man’s family.”

Another local, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “I saw all of the emergency services along the street on Sunday and knew something bad must have happened.

“It so sad, especially this close to Christmas.

“It makes you reconsider where you live and if this is still the place that you want to be.”
