New government map shows Covid-19 threat where you live in Yorkshire

Written by on 17/10/2020

A new interactive map allows you to see the severity of Covid-19 infections in the area you live in.

The tool, released by the Department of Health and Social Care, shows you the latest infection rates for your postcode and surrounding areas, LincolnshireLive reports.

The map is colour-coded with purple indicating the most hard-hit areas and yellow for those barely affected.

It uses the seven–day rolling rate of new cases which are expressed per 100,000 people and calculated by dividing the seven day count by the area population and multiplying it by 100,000.

Here are the colours explained:

  • 0-10 yellow
  • 10-50 light green
  • 50-100 dark green
  • 100-200 light blue
  • 200-400 dark blue
  • 400+ purple
  • data missing white

Across Yorkshire, people are currently living under Tier 1 and Tier 2 restrictions.

Both South and West Yorkshire have been moved to Covid alert level “high” with talks of further restrictions if infection rates continue to increase.

North Yorkshire has been placed under Tier 1, with some areas in the county such as Richmondshire and Craven having experienced a decrease in their infection rate.

York, which saw a massive surge in case numbers this month, was moved to Covid alert level “high” on October 17.
