Green bin collections cancelled in Doncaster after Covid-19 outbreak

Written by on 29/10/2020

Green bin collections in Doncaster have been suspended for the rest of the year after several members of staff are self-isolating due to coronavirus.

Doncaster Council say that a “significant amount” of bin collectors have tested positive for Covid-19 and others have been forced to self-isolate.

The staff members are working on behalf of contractors Suez and now there are fewer staff members to collect rubbish.

This means that black and recycling bins are being prioritised.

Cllr Chris McGuinness, Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “The safety of the public and staff members must take priority.

“It is balancing act to safeguard everyone’s safety against the risks of Covid-19 and make sure the bins are collected.

“However, as we have fewer staff members, this will mean that black and blue (recycling) bin collections will be prioritised.

“Please remember to observe the ‘HANDS – FACE – SPACE’ guidance. You can do this by cleaning your hands before and after handling your bin.

“We hope that the staff members affected make a full and speedy recovery.”

For residents in Doncaster whose green bin is due to be collected by the end of this week you are asking to put your green bin out on the kerbside according to the calendar schedule.

It will be picked up as soon as possible.
