A three-year-old boy was given the “best birthday surprise ever” after he was forced to isolate at home for his big day.
Oliver Cook, from Cudworth in Barnsley was due to celebrate his third birthday at nursery on January 12.
But the nursery had to close due to a positive Covid-19 case and Oliver instead had to self-isolate at home with his parents.
However, all was not lost as the local firefighters at Cudworth Fire Station gave the Fireman Sam fan a special birthday surprise.
Oliver’s mum Aimee said that she will be forever grateful for the crew making his birthday one to remember.
She said: “Oliver was really looking forward to having his birthday at nursery and taking a cake in but unfortunately that weekend they had to close due to a positive Covid result.
“I needed to find some way to make his day special seeing as though we’d be at home isolating.
“Before when we used to go for walks around the block he would see the firemen working and training an get so excited, especially being a Fireman Sam fan.
“So it just came as an idea from then that I’d try to get in touch with them.
“I emailed South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue and asked if they could give us a wave the next day for his birthday and sent a picture of the lovely view we have from Oliver’s bedroom window.”
Within hours Aimee had a response from the campaigns manager who said that they had passed the message on to the Cudworth Fire Station.
The morning of Oliver’s birthday Aimee received an email to say for them to go to the window at 11am because they had a surprise for him.
Aimee said: “It was so magical. Oliver was screaming and laughing with excitement.
“They put the hoses on, alarms and lights and did a lovely little display for him.
“As well as a beautiful sign they had made wishing him a happy birthday.
“I will forever be grateful for making his birthday one to remember.
“He was such a happy chappy and he is still taking about it now.”
