Face slashing in Sheffield under investigation

A man needed hospital treatment after being allegedly slashed across the face with a knife in a disupte which flared on a Sheffield Street.
Emergency services were called to Spa Lane Croft in Woodhouse just before 4 am today in response to reports of a disturbance.
South Yorkshire Police have confirmed a suspect is now in custody and said in a statement: “It is reported that during a dispute outside a block of flats on the road a 20-year-old man was slashed with a knife on his face.
“He was taken to hospital for treatment but his injuries are not thought to be serious.
“A 34-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. He remains in custody.”
Police are now appealing for information and have asked anyone who can help to call 101, quoting incident 127 from October 10.
Knife crime has become an increasing problem in South Yorkshire in recent years and the county now has a Violence Reduction Unit, which aims to find long term solutions to all types of violent offending.
