Written by on 02/12/2020

A figure of Darth Vader has appeared on the empty Edward Colston plinth in Bristol in an apparent tribute to actor Dave Prowse.

Prowse, who comes from Bristol and was best known for playing the iconic character in the original Star Wars trilogy, died last week aged 85.

He provided the physical performance, while James Earl Jones did Vader’s voice.

Cheers as protesters pull down slave trader statue

The figurine has been put on the empty plinth which was home to a statue of slave trader Edward Colston.

That was toppled and thrown into Bristol Harbour during a Black Lives Matter protest in June.

The 1ft Vader figure appeared overnight and it is unclear who is responsible or if permission was given.

It was only there for one day after it was secretly installed on Wednesday

If not, it is unlikely it will remain in place for long.

More from Bristol

Since the Edward Colston statue was toppled, numerous statues and sculptures have been put on the plinth.

A sculpture of Black Lives Matter protester Jen Reid was removed after just a day.
