Dad’s tribute to his ‘angel’ baby at centre of murder investigation

Written by on 28/09/2020

The dad of a tragic Barnsley baby at the centre of a murder investigation has described the heartbreaking moments he spent with his “beautiful baby daughter”.

Four-month-old Keira-Mae Jones died in Barnsley Hospital earlier this month after suffering “catastrophic injuries” when she was just two days old.

She spent all of her life in hospital and her life support machine was finally switched off on Monday, September 14.

Two days after her death, police raided a house in Athersley, Barnsley, and arrested a 31-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man on suspicion of murder. They have since been released on bail as police enquiries continue.

In a tribute on Facebook, Keira-Mae’s dad revealed how his daughter’s death had left him distraught, describing the youngster as his “angel”.

He wrote: “The day our baby girl passed away in our arms was and is the hardest thing we have ever had to do, we loved and love our daughter very much.

“All we want is to be allowed to grieve for her death and remember the short time we had with her.

“She was and is our angel, our shining star, our beautiful baby daughter.

“My world broke when she passed away, holding her while she took her final breath and left this world and us behind.”

The dad wrote Keira-Mae died at 2.48pm on Monday, September 14, and he said he and his wife “fought with everything we had to stop our daughter’s life support from being removed”.

Keira-Mae’s cause of death has not yet been determined and it is thought Keira-Mae managed to live for another 20 minutes after the life support machine was turned off.
